Civic Theatre
The Civic Theatre seats an audience of 505 over 2 levels – stalls and balcony. The auditorium makes the performance space a very intimate one where you can be close to the stage and immerse yourself in the performance with no restricted views from any seats. The auditorium has excellent technical and stage facilities allowing an exciting new range of artists and companies to come to Essex.
It benefits from full flying, allowing scenery and artists to appear as if by magic. There is an orchestra pit that when not required allows stalls seating level to provide the full complement of seating. The auditorium boasts comfortable seating newly refurbished in 2016, excellent sight lines, air conditioning, and the backstage facilities to make the magic of theatre a reality.
Cramphorn Studio
The Cramphorn Studio (adjoining the Civic) is an intimate studio theatre seating up to 165 and presents a programme of smaller scale professional touring theatre, music productions, dance and lunchtime concerts, as well as being the home of The Chelmsford Picture House renowned for its innovative mixture of art house, world and mainstream film and live screenings.
