Matthew Bourne’s Cinderella Returns to the Stage for 30th Anniversary Tour

New Adventures is reviving one of its most beloved productions as Matthew Bourne’s Cinderella returns for a major 30th anniversary tour, bringing the acclaimed dance theatre work to audiences across the UK.

Set in London during the Second World War, Bourne’s powerful reimagining of the classic fairytale places the story amid the chaos and romance of the Blitz. Opening with the sound of air raid sirens and the darkness of the wartime blackout, the production transports audiences to 1940s London for a story where love and hope shine through even the darkest moments.

At the heart of the production is a poignant wartime romance. A chance meeting between Cinderella and a dashing young RAF pilot leads to a magical night together, long enough for them to fall in love before war forces them apart.

The production is set to Sergei Prokofiev’s sweeping score and features an award-winning creative team. Lez Brotherston’s Olivier Award-winning set and costume designs evoke wartime London in striking detail, complemented by atmospheric lighting from Olivier Award winner Neil Austin. Video and projection design by Duncan McLean and immersive sound design by Paul Groothuis further bring the sights and sounds of the era to life.

Both a tribute to the resilience and spirit of London during the Blitz and a timeless love story, Cinderella remains one of Bourne’s most vivid and emotionally powerful works. Three decades after its premiere, this anniversary tour offers audiences another chance to experience a thrilling and moving retelling of a familiar tale.
