‘No master to serve, no leash to bear. I walk as I please, and I speak as I dare.’

    About Cyrano de Bergerac

A bold new production of Cyrano de Bergerac is set to light up London’s West End this summer after a sold-out and critically praised run with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

The reimagined staging of Edmond Rostand’s 1897 classic will open at the Noël Coward Theatre from 13 June for a strictly limited season.

Described by the Mail on Sunday as “hilariously funny and ultimately heartbreaking,” the production stars Olivier Award-winner Adrian Lester in the title role. Lester, known for his performances in Riviera and Hustle, has been hailed as “perfect” by The Times for his portrayal of the brilliant yet self-doubting swordsman-poet.

Joining him is Susannah Fielding, recognised for her work in Wolf Hall, who takes on the role of Roxane. The Stage has praised her performance as “instantly charming.”

The story follows Cyrano — poet, soldier and philosopher — a man whose wit and bravery are matched only by his insecurity about his appearance. Secretly in love with Roxane, he steps aside when she falls for the handsome but tongue-tied Christian. In an act of bittersweet devotion, Cyrano lends Christian his eloquence, crafting the words that win Roxane’s heart.

The production is directed by Simon Evans, whose previous credits include Staged and The Dazzle. The adaptation is co-written with Debris Stevenson, creator of Poet in Da Corner, bringing a fresh contemporary energy to Rostand’s enduring tale of love, pride and sacrifice.

Blending sharp humour, lyrical language and emotional depth, the new staging promises a vibrant revival of one of theatre’s most celebrated romantic dramas.

Playing at the Noël Coward Theatre from 13 June.

Poet. Soldier. Philosopher. Cyrano de Bergerac burns with brilliance.

Fiercely funny and intensely romantic, Cyrano lives by his words and his sword. Haunted by doubts about his own his appearance, he watched from the shadows as Roxane falls for another man. Handsome but hopeless with words, Christian turns to the one person who can help.

Following a sold-out, critically acclaimed run with the Royal Shakespeare Company, this ‘hilariously funny and ultimately heartbreaking’ (Mail on Sunday) production transfers to the West End for a strictly limited season.
