Artspod Chats: David Alwyn, The Great Christmas Feast

    Artspod Chats: David Alwyn

David Alwyn has been sharing what it’s like to take on the role of Charles Dickens in The Great Christmas Feast, an immersive theatre production inspired by Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Staged at the Lost Estate in West Kensington, the show transforms the venue into a richly detailed Victorian world, complete with live music, lavish sets and a festive feast that unfolds alongside the story.

Alwyn describes the experience as warm, lively and unpredictable, with audiences encouraged to interact with the performers rather than sit back and watch. He says that this close connection with the crowd helps shape each performance, making every night feel different. Storytelling is at the centre of the production, supported by moments of theatrical magic that bring Dickens’ classic tale to life in surprising ways.

Reflecting on his own journey into acting, Alwyn speaks openly about the challenges he faced early on and how rewarding it is to engage so directly with audiences. For him, playing Charles Dickens in The Great Christmas Feast is about more than revisiting a familiar character, it’s about sharing joy, atmosphere and a sense of togetherness through live, immersive theatre.
